The Asian Media Awards recognise the strength and depth of the media industry. The awards reward the efforts of media organisations in helping to galvanise their communities and forging ahead with what sometimes are limited resources. It showcases the very best talent working in the Asian media and those working in the mainstream media. WinkBall reporters Gully Singh and Itteshad Hossain report
Glaswegian Gully, now based in London, is a versatile DJ/Radio presenter aiming for the top. Having only found his love for music rather later in life than many others, his adaptability and passion for Djing and radio has seen him work for the likes of BBC 1xtra and support artists such as Wiley & Tinchy Stryder. From 1st DJing out live in 2005, Gully has came a long way and now finds himself closer now than ever to achieving his dream. As a former member of the Urban Asian collective, Gtown Desi, Gully has delivered guest mixes for the likes of Bobby Friction (BBC Asian Network), Mistajam (BBC Radio 1/1xtra), DJ Kayper (BBC Asian Network), CJ Beatz (BBC 1xtra), DJ Stylus (Unity Radio) and Marcus Bronzy (BBC 1xtra/Bang Radio). Gully is now a member of the WinkBall network and has created some brilliant reports for us such as the ITV gala and the ITV Asian Media Awards in London and Manchester.
Itteshad has been with WinkBall since its early incarnation. He studied film at Queen Mary, University of London and his love of film has transferred into his reports for WinkBall. Itteshad has filmed some of our best reports including the BFI film screening of Ingrid Goes West and the ITV gala in both London and Manchester. Before working for WinkBall he was a freelance videographer and worked as a production runner for several companies.
