Donnla played the part of Helen in Toxic Bankers. She talks more about her character and how the performance went.
With Britain still involved in a worldwide financial recession, mood, morale and optimism is understandably at a low. The failing economy has been fertile ground for discussion in all walks of life, in particular it has been a huge topic of discussion in the news for some years now. It was therefore only a matter of time someone put in on stage and did a musical on the subject! On Wednesday 7th March 2012, it was the opening night performance of new musical comedy Toxic Bankers, a show played out amidst the financial capital of the city; London’s Square Mile. A tale of cut-throat bankers, egotistical bosses and financial young hotshots, Toxic Bankers tells the story of Tony, a big wig city boss who has not been affected by the credit crunch with his successful set up of the first truly ethical investment bank. Profiting highly from his latest venture, his star employee Fiona is a whizz-kid on the market but suffers from bad luck when it comes to romance and is currently experiencing a personal meltdown akin to the one happening to the world economy. Can new kid on the block Chris be the love she dreams of and save her from her inner turmoil as a City girl? Or will she crash and burn and become Written by award-winning duo Andrew Taylor and Desmond O’Connor, Toxic Bankers promises to take audience members on a ride that certainly won’t leave them out of pocket and lets them experience the dizzying highs and catastrophic lows that come with Banking. Performed by 1215 Productions at London’s Leicester Square Theatre, the show features stellar performances from Hazel Gardner, Jonathan Dryden Taylor and Donnla Hughes. With its opening night, WinkBall video reporters Laurent and Oliver were at the Leicester Square Theatre to speak to fans and find out what had brought them down to see the show and what were their expectations of this exciting new musical.
