Looking to cement their hold on the fourth Champions League spot, Spurs’ European dreams were dealt a massive blow as the Canaries pulled off a remarkable 1-2 away victory at White Hart Lane. With Newcastle winning at home, this slip up by Harry Redknapp’s men unfortunately put them on equal points with the Magpies and the fourth league position they currently occupy under serious threat. For their visitors, Norwich City and their fans have been on an incredible journey these past few years thanks to manager Paul Lambert. Their brand and style of play has won them fans this year and star performances from key players such as Grant Holt and John Ruddy have ensured that Norwich will undoubtedly be watching Premiership football again next year at Carrow Road. On Monday 9th April 2012, Spurs entertained Norwich City at White Hart Lane in a scintillating game that ended 1-2 to Norwich City. It was Paul Lambert’s team that got things started when Anthony Pilkington’s side footed effort gave Norwich a surprise 0-1 lead. However, Spurs displaying their never say die attitude clawed their way back and striker Jermaine Defoe found an equaliser making it 1-1 before half time. Chances came for both sides in the second half with Spurs’ Gareth Bale hitting the cross bar and Norwich being denied a penalty they felt they deserved. With just over 25 minutes to go, Norwich found inspiration in the form of Elliott Bennett who rifled in a 25 yard shot past a helpless Brad Friedel to make it 1-2 to the visitors. Norwich showed spirit and true bravery with some fantastic saves from goalie John Ruddy keeping wave after wave of Spurs attacks at bay. The Canaries held on grabbing a valuable win that will no doubt be one of the highlights of their season and furthermore heaped more pressure on Spurs.
