This event has a lot to offer if you like beer, real ales, ciders and perries. Some 150 years ago London was the brewing capital of the world - with the city's brewers pioneering industrial brewing, inventing the first two global beer styles and sending their products to every inhabited continent on the planet. That was some time ago but don’t despair London’s brewery’s have doubled in the past 5 years to 14, a true London Pride! Not to far from the city, well Essex actually. Is home of the freshly crowned Best Beer in Britain ‘Oscar Wilde’ from Mighty Oak brewery's. This brew is described as a 'roasty dark mild with suggestions of forest fruits and dark chocolate. A sweet taste yields to a more bitter finish’, sounds aptly named “Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.” Oscar Wilde. Stephen Fry a huge fan of Wilde’s was voted the most popular person to have a pint of real ale with at the Festival, followed by Oliver Reed, James May, Winston Churchill and Brian Blessed making up the top 5. Winkball citizen reporters took the bull by the horns on Wednesday, 3rd August 2011, and spent the day in Earls Court talking to real people - the stall holders and beer enthusiasts to find out what was great at the Great British Beer Festival, from traditional pub games, live music, good traditional pub snacks, and what happens on tutored beer tastings (to swallow or not to swallow, that is the question?).
