The BUPA London 10,000 was on Sunday May 27, 2012, starting and finishing in St James’s Park. While it is a charity run, is it also a serious race with celebrities and professional runners competing as a warm up for London 2012. Indeed, Mo Farah was looking to defend his title at the Bupa London 10,000 against Scott Overall – all part of the Olympic build-up. The 5000m champion is a mainstay at this BUPA event, having won the last three – setting British records in 2009 and 2010. That 2010 time of 27 minutes and 44 seconds is the course record. A keen eye will have been on the British athlete ahead of the Olympic Games; assessing his form and fitness in this first outdoor race for him this year. Behind Farah and his fellow serious athletes will be about 10,000 fun runners, celebrities and fundraisers on a hunt for personal best times, satisfaction, and life-changing fundraising efforts. The route begins and ends in The Mall, following a clockwise route around the City of Westminster and the City of London. The runners benefit from the great and iconic views of the city to inspire them, including: Admiralty Arch, Nelson’s Column, St Paul’s Cathedral, Millennium Bridge, London Eye, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Phew! WinkBall Reporters Fred and Laurent went along to support these wonderful runners on Sunday – hear about their reasons for running here:
