The London International Goalball Tournament 2011

Event Date: 05/12/2011

The London Prepares series kicked off with the London International Goalball Tournament, which took place between the 3rd and 4th of December 2011. Goalball is a sport played by blind and visually impaired athletes in teams of three, the aim of which is to roll a ball containing a bell into the opponents’ defended net. Competing on the day were teams from five nations, which included Great Britain, Canada, China and Sweden, as well as the champion title-holders Team USA. The Paralympic event was the first of many tournaments held in preparation for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. WinkBall reporters Nkechi and Alex were at the competition in the Handball Arena, one of London’s fantastic new sports venues at the Olympic Park. They conducted interviews with the Team GB Goalball players and their coaches, from performance directors and from spectators themselves; asking them about the sport and the skills involved, about the Olympics and Paralympics coming to London and the future of the sport after the Games have taken place. Check out their interviews below!
