Bhangra Showdown 2012

Event Date: 13/02/2012

The Bhangra Showdown returned to London for the fifth time on Saturday 11th February 2012. This is the UK’s only inter-university Bhangra competition – it sees nine teams, from nine universities, engage in the ultimate battle of the dance to be crowned: The UK’s Number One Student Bhangra Team! Set up bigger, better and more colourful than ever at the amazing Hammersmith Apollo venue; the students’ weren’t only competing to be the best Bhangra Team, they were – as with every Bhangra Showdown – helping to raise thousands of pounds for charity. The three charities being supported by the 2012 Showdown were: Lupus UK, Sankara Eye Foundation, and the Kenyan Orphan Project. The students and fans were there to celebrate and raise awareness of Punjabi culture alongside raising money, as all money raised goes to the nominated charities. Imperial College boasts The Punjabi Society as one of its most active and effervescent charities – thanks to them, this dance event has grown from strength to strength since it’s inaugural 2007 Competition. Competing this year, alongside Imperial College, was King’s College, St George’s, Brunel, Kingston, Birmingham, Queen Mary and Barts, Leicester/DMU and Manchester.
