Thursday, 17th May 2012, saw England return to the Home of Cricket, Lord’s, for the start of the three Test series against the West Indies. The last time the sides met at Lord’s was 2009. In a very one-sided affair, England ran out winners by 10 wickets. Ravi Bopara and Graeme Onions were the stars of that Test, scoring 154 and taking 8 wickets respectively. Since 2009, cricket in England has exploded. Rising to the top of the Test rankings, England are top of the world after a great performance against India in the summer of 2011. However, their form didn’t quite hold out for the winter tour on the sub-continent as they were on the end of a series whitewash against Pakistan and battled to a series draw against Sri Lanka. England are looking to bounce back against the West Indies.
Currently, the West Indies lie in 8th place in the test rankings and have come under criticism for the political decisions around the selection of their squad. Captain Darren Sammy and Shivnarine Chanderpaul will have to be playing to their full potential for the West Indies to give them a shot at beating England in their home conditions.
WinkBall reporters Fred, Stefan and Nick were at Lord’s to ask fans about whether they thought England can bounce back, the selection of Johnny Bairstow, if Andrew Strauss was still the right man to lead England, and much more.
