Glorious Goodwood was the host of the British Champions Series on Wednesday, 27th July 2011, in a day when two of Britain’s top horses were fighting it out for victory in the prestigious Sussex Stakes. All the talk before the race was focussed on what had been nicknamed ‘the dual of the downs,’ as Frankel looked to make it eight wins in eight meetings. His challenger Canford Cliffs was also widely backed as punters felt he would outlast the pace of Frankel, who has now become renowned for his lightning quick starts. The race didn’t disappoint as Frankel outshone his rival Canford Cliffs, romping to victory by five lengths. The defeated Canford Cliffs, ridden on Wednesday by Richard Hughes, will already by eyeing up revenge on the unbeaten thoroughbred in their next head to head meeting at Champions Day, Ascot. WinkBall video reporter’s were out in force at the West Sussex venue, asking racing enthusiasts who they were backing in the big race and what it is they like about a day at the races.
