Anna Turner: Living Hope, Durley

The Pilgrim’s Progress is considered one of literatures great masterpieces, all over the world. It is the world’s second most-read book because, since its first publication, it has never gone out of print. John Bunyan’s Christian novel was adapted here for the stage by David Robinson and Richard Hasnip, as part of the Saltmine Theatre Company. The tale is of course set in the Industrial Revolution: ‘Part I’ of the tale details Christian and his journey to the Celestial City; ‘Part II’ is the journey of Christian’s wife Christiana, and their children, to the Celestial City. The two parts work to depict a believer’s life and struggles, offering spiritual significance as well as entertainment, throughout the novel. The Saltmine Theatre Company offers a modern adaptation of the tale, bringing this timeless classic to life for a whole next generation.
