Thin Lizzy: HMV Hammersmith Apollo

Event Date: 06/02/2012

A band that still holds one of the greatest legacies in rock and roll music, blues and hard rock group ‘Thin Lizzy’ live on in the hearts of fans despite the death of former lead singer and creative force Phil Lynott back in 1986. Inspired by his Irish roots, Lynott took musical influence from other great folk rock acts the likes of Van Morrison and Bob Dylan whilst putting his own ‘Thin Lizzy’ stamp on the band’s music. With his Hendrix-esque looks and powerful stage presence, Lynott is considered one of the greatest rock frontmen and it was his emotive performances as lead singer of ‘Thin Lizzy’ that made the band one of the great rock and roll bands from the 1970s. The band suffered recent heartbreak again back in early 2011, when original member and Lynott’s co-singer Gary Moore passed away after suffering a fatal heartbreak. Moore and guitarist Scott Gorham’s work together both as lead guitarists, as opposed to the traditional one lead and one rhythm, was considered ground breaking and revolutionary at the time and they were seen to be the first rock band to employ double lead guitar harmony sounds in their music. Lynott and Moore’s death has not halted the progress of the band and ‘Thin Lizzy’ has continued to perform throughout the years in various new line-ups, treating their original fans to classic tunes such as “Boys are back in town” and “Whiskey in the jar” and bringing their music to a new generation of fans. With a new line up that still features original drummer and ‘Thin Lizzy’ co-founder Brian Downey, lead guitarist Scott Gorham and Darren Wharton, ‘Thin Lizzy’ are pleased to announce a new tour for 2012 where they will play a host of dates at venues across Europe. Kicking off their tour in Brighton on Friday 3rd February 2012, Thin Lizzy headed towards London for their second date at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo on Saturday 4th February 2012. Playing to an army of adoring and also new fans, ‘Thin Lizzy’ were set to rock the HMV Hammersmith Apollo and bring the noise and rock the house. WinkBall video reporters Ralph and Matt were at the Apollo for the ‘Thin Lizzy’ to speak to fans and find out what had brought them down to the gig to see the legendary Irish rockers. Asking them what they love about ‘Thin Lizzy’, fans were also asked what classic songs they were hoping to hear?
