Ben Sherman: Commercial Street store launch party

Ben Sherman: Commercial Street store launch party

The Ben Sherman brand has finally landed in East London. What a great time to launch a new store in the east of the city, as all eyes across the world are due to be fixated – like it or not – on this side of London this summer for the 2012 Games. East London is a hotbed of activity and new up-and-coming designers, which is what makes this Ben Sherman E1 concept so great – see, while their ground floor is selling the Plectrum by Ben Sherman collection, alongside a shirting bar and tailoring section, they have ‘Modular Blanc’ in the basement of the store which is a new retail concept selling the wares of new designers. Ben Sherman said it aims to “support and nature some of the best of British, as well as introduce new and exciting brands, works or concepts from further afield.” Since the launch of their new, higher priced, line ‘Plectrum’ in Autumn 2011, Ben Sherman and their seven UK standalone stores have been focussing more on this line than their traditional logo shirts. This new store is fittingly located between Spitalfield’s antique and new designer market, and Brick Lane’s boutiques – 106 Commercial Street. Let’s found out what people think about their new style and what this store means for British designers. Is east London the best place for this store – how well does it fit in to the E1 postcode of stores and creativity? How important are brands like Ben Sherman to the British industry – especially as they are offering a place for new brands to retail. Which items and ideas are unique to Ben Sherman – do they have a ‘speciality’ style and what do people think about them branching out with the ‘Plectrum’ brand? Ben Sherman, 108 Commercial Street, London, E1 6ZY
