Chinese New Year 2011 - Year of the Rabbit

by Event Reporters

The Chinese New Year is very similar to the Western new year- rich in history, folklore, tradition and rituals. The origin of celebrating the new year is hundreds of years old, beginning in the spring and lasting for fifteen days. On the day, tributes are made to ancestors by burning incense, the symbolic offering of foods and some families invite a lion dance to usher in the new year. It is a time of fun, family and festivities and is the most important and auspicious event in the Chinese calendar. WinkBall citizen video reporters were in central London on Sunday, 6th February to ask the public which Chinese sign they are, why have they come out to celebrate and what does the Chinese New Year mean to them. We would like to know what YOU think, please post a comment to this wall !
