“Oh my god, I can’t believe it”, the Kaiser Chiefs are back! The group fronted by lead singer Ricky Wilson, first came to prominence on the music scene back in 2005 with their smash hit debut album ‘Employment’. Featuring a number of catchy pop rock tracks the likes of “I Predict A Riot”, “Na Na Na Na Na” and “Everyday I love you less and less”, the album put these boys from Yorkshire straight on the map and they became one of many groups such as Bloc Party, The Killers, Keane and Razorlight to come out of this mid-noughties indie pop movement. Debut album ‘Employment’ enjoyed critical success with it being nominated for a prestigious Mercury Prize award, only for them to miss out on the top prize to Antony and the Johnsons. One of the many successful singles ‘Employment’ spawned was the song “Oh My God” which went on to find a new lease of life with pop princess Lily Allen and master mixer and producer Mark Ronson covering the song and giving it a completely new sound. After the success of ‘Employment’, the Kaiser Chiefs began work on, as it is known in the industry, the difficult second album. ‘Yours Truly, Angry Mob’ was the resulting album and the record saw the band continue their success and helped them become festival favourites with their anthemic and catchy tune “Ruby”. Third album ‘Off with Their Heads' soon followed in 2008 and their most recent effort last year in 2011, ‘The Future Is Medieval’ saw the group experiment with the power of the internet in regards to its distribution. Taking possible influence from Radiohead, fans could customise their own version of the latest Kaiser Chiefs record through selecting and downloading 12 of the 20 songs that the band had produced. Now in 2012, the band plan to take their latest album to the states but under the different title of ‘Start The Revolution Without Me’. Taking their music to America, the band will be setting off on a US tour to promote the record and crack the tough American market. Before this though, the Kaiser Chiefs will be playing a small UK tour where they would be performing some of their most loved tracks to audiences. On Thursday 23rd February 2012, the Kaiser Chiefs were set to play at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. Fans were in high anticipation for a fantastic evening and hoped they’d “never miss a beat” as the Kaiser Chiefs were certain to deliver amazing tune after amazing tune. WinkBall reporters Alex and Daniel were down at Hammersmith Apollo speaking to fans of the Kaiser Chiefs. Asking fans what had brought them down to the Hammersmith Apollo, fans were asked what they loved about the Kaiser Chiefs and what their expectations were of the evening?
