Tottenham Hotspur 3–1 Swansea City After North London rivals Arsenal slipped up yesterday, losing 2-1 against Q.P.R; Tottenham Hotspur looked to take advantage of their defeat and capitalise with a win when they took on Swansea City at White Hart Lane on Sunday 1st April 2012. Despite leading their London neighbours by ten points only a few weeks back, Harry Redknapp’s men had seen the points advantage they once had over the Gunners pulled back with Arsenal eventually leapfrogging them into the coveted third place which ensures automatic Champions League qualification. Spurs’ form of late had been suffering with their last recorded league win against Newcastle in early February. Today’s game was a must win for Harry Redknapp’s team if they were to keep the pressure on Arsenal in the chase for third and to also keep fellow London rivals Chelsea at bay, who with their win yesterday suggested they were also in with a shout for Champions League qualification. Playing against Swansea, Brendan Rodgers’ team have won great respect and adoration for their expressive and free flowing style of play in what is their debut season in the Premiership. With great movement, fluid passing and bundles of creativity, the Swans have been a blue print for what many football purists believe is the best way to play football. The game against Spurs would no doubt be a match Swans fans would relish with both teams playing similar styles of football, allowing for a far more open game that would create plenty of goalmouth action. With Premiership status near enough guaranteed for Swansea next season, Brendan Rodgers would approach this game with a sense of ease and enjoyment. In what was a fantastic display of attacking football that produced end to end action, Tottenham Hotspur defeated Swansea 3-1 at White Hart Lane. Spurs playmaker Rafael Van der Vaart started the party with a sublime left footed effort into the Swansea goal to make it 1-0. The Swans soon came back and it was fifteen minutes into the second half when Gylfi Sigurdsson produced a 25 yard stunner of a shot to make it 1-1. With many anxious Spurs fans sensing yet again that their team might not have what it takes again to take home all three points, striker Emmanuel Adebayor hit a brace with his 13th and 14th goals of the season to make it 3-1 to Spurs and tie up the game. A sigh of relief went round White Hart Lane as the win ended Spurs poor run of seven weeks without a league victory and put them back on track in their fight for a Champions League spot. Down at White Hart Lane, WinkBall video reporters Alex and Michael were speaking to both sets of fans at the Spurs v Swansea game. Talking to Spurs fans, they were asked how important a victory was for their team today after Arsenal’s slip up the previous day? Talking more about their loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor, would the Spurs faithful want to see him back at White Hart Lane or would they see rather see him move on? Swansea’s visiting fans were asked about their recent improving away form and could this mean a victory for them today at White Hart Lane? With the attacking style of football that Brendan Rodgers has brought to the team, what did they make of the rumours connecting their manager with Spurs in the event that Tottenham manager might leave for the vacant England job?
