Youth Day march in Soweto 2

Event Date: 17/06/2011

In commemoration of 16 June 1976 (Soweto Uprising) and 25 years in broadcasting, Metro FM staged a “Walk for Freedom” from the Morris Isaackson High School to Phefeni Junior Secondary School in Vilakazi Street, Soweto, Johannesburg. June 16, no a public holiday, honours the deaths of hundreds of Soweto schoolchildren, a day that changed the course of the country's history. The walk will gave listeners an opportunity to retrace the steps of those heroes who resuscitated the fight for democracy and gave today's youth an opportunity to experience what their predecessors went through. WinkBall citizen video reporters Laurraine, Tabane and Angus attended this march asking attendees (most dressed in school uniform): What brings them to this event? What is the responsibility of the youth of today in creating the South Africa of tomorrow? Why do they believe in the importance of remembering South African greats? Which South African, in their opinion, has made the greatest contribution to our heritage, and why? We ask you the same questions, upload your thoughts to this wall:
