The Rapture: 02 Shepherds Bush

A Post-Punk revival band that infuses elements of electronic, dance and indie. “How can that possibly make good music?” critics would cry out. However, the 13 year musical career of The Rapture says otherwise. Frontman Luke Jenner and drummer Vito Roccoforte (which happens to be one of the best second names we’ve heard), formed The Rapture in 1999. After a few years of heavy touring, the New York based band finally hit the big time as they were snapped up by DFA records to produce their debut album “echoes”. Re-releasing the single “House of Jealous Lovers” in 2003, The Rapture hit success as the single reached the top 40 in the UK chart, peaking at 27. The album reached the top 40 of the UK album chart and bought The Rapture onto the UK music scene. The title track “echoes” has become more famous in recent years, after featuring on the soundtrack to the comedy “Superbad” and appearing as the title music to e4 series “Misfits”. They returned in 2006 with three more singles from the album “Pieces of the People we Love”. After this album, the band went through a turbulent year in 2008, as Jenner quit the band when his mother passed away and his child was born. He returned a few months later, only for bassist Mattie Slatter to leave. In late 2011, The Rapture released their third studio album “In the Grace of your Love” and the first single of the track “How Deep is your Love” (no it isn’t a BeeGees cover!) WinkBall reporters caught up with fans of The Rapture outside The O2 in Shepherds Bush on Wednesday 2nd May 2012 to ask them what it is they love about the band and to give a review of the gig afterwards.
