On Sunday, 10th July 2011, WinkBall video reporters were at the Leicester Belgrave Mela in Leicester City Centre. Leicester Belgrave Mela has a proud twenty-five year history of promoting South Asian arts and culture in Leicester. Famous for being the first event of its kind here in the UK, the Leicester Belgrave Mela is one the most popular and established free community events in the UK and this year the festival celebrates its 25th Anniversary. Thousands of people took to the streets of Leicester to be part of the Mela festival and enjoyed the spectacular ‘Mela Motions of Colour Parade’, as well as a host of free arts activities and community performances. The amazing atmosphere at the Leicester Belgrave Mela also attracted the biggest names in UK Asian music. Our reporters mingled with the crowds to ask them what their views were on todays festivities and how important they thought todays event was in bringing the community together?.
