Brazilica Festival, Liverpool - Friday Day One

Event Date: 15/07/2011

Friday 15th July 2011 sees the official launch of Brazilica, Liverpool’s own slice of Brazilian culture which in turns promises to be the largest event of its kind in Britain. Launched by Liverpool Carnival Company and Orb Events, the festival is an exciting addition to the Carnival Company’s highly regarded and heavily attended carnival parade. The parade itself launched in 2008 as part of Liverpool’s Capital of Culture and has gone from strength to strength ever since. Tonight’s colour and sound explosion offers the Carnival Queen Competition at Bem Brasil, Hanover Street with celebrity judges Ken Dodd, Danielle Lloyd and Marcia da Silva Pinto. Meanwhile, Leaf on Bold Street are playing host to the Brazilica Fringe Festival. Samba to your heart’s content to the rhythm and the beat of Batala and Liverpool Samba School to name but a few of the acts performing tonight. The Bluecoat on behalf of The ABC Trust is holding a sponsored sleep out challenge to raise awareness and vital funding of their work in Brazil. WinkBall reporters Sean, Andrew, Tom and Fiona were out and about at the various locations to soak up the vibe and see how you are all enjoying your slice of Brazil, here on your doorstep.
