“One of the best interpreters of Shakespeare I have ever seen” is just one of many great reviews fans gave Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey in his stunning performance as Richard III on Wednesday, 6th July. Acting in the latest chapter of his collaborated Bridge Project that sees American and British actors tour the world in Shakespearean productions, the American actor exceeded high expectations when he took on one of the greatest stage villains of all as the evil, vengeful Richard III. Staged at the Old Vic Theatre, the play, thought to have been written in the 16th Century, starts with the conclusion of the historical series stretching back to Richard II and Henry VI. The production gives an unflattering story of the short reign of Richard III of England and is often portrayed as a tragedy. Spacey’s talent and the works of the literary legend William Shakespeare were not the only attractions to the theatre which uses director Sam Mendes, whose teamwork with Kevin has won them both an Oscar for the film masterpiece American Beauty. WinkBall video reporters were on the street outside the Old Vic to capture the excitement prior to the performance and to collect reviews on the cast’s performance and play afterward.
