Performing at Sadler’s Wells Theatre for a limited four-week run, Matthew Bourne’s ‘Play Without Words’ is an exciting theatre production that explores new horizons in live theatre through music and dance. One of the UK and perhaps the World’s most well respected and renowned choreographers, Matthew Bourne is best known for his ground breaking and inspiring work he did on ballet classics such as The Nutcracker and Swan Lake. His ‘Play Without Words’ once again defies convention and challenges the norm of performance through his astounding choreography. Set in the swinging 60s in the cultural and fashion savvy backdrop of Chelsea, London, the play explores a couple whose privileged lifestyle appears to be more than meets the eye. Beneath the affluent façade, their lies a struggle for power, territory and sexual domination and both their lives are turned upside down when they welcome to their home manservant Prentice. ‘Play Without Words’ promises to be an original and spellbinding drama full that is sexy, seductive and thrilling to audiences. With its original concept of the story being told through the medium of movement of music, it is arguably one of 2012’s most unique pieces of live theatre. Brought to life by Matthew Bourne’s company New Adventures and working together with the National Theatre, the play was first introduced to audiences back in 2002 and with New Adventures now being 25 years strong; the company celebrates with the show’s revival at Sadler’s Wells Theatre. It’s first showing of the play’s four week run was held on Thursday 12th July 2012 at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, where WinkBall video reporters were there to speak to attendees and ask about this ground breaking piece of theatre.
