On Friday 27th July 2012, WinkBall video reporters Lucio and Laurent were at the Royal Albert Hall in London for the 18th Prom performance as part of the BBC Proms Series. The evening’s performance would be celebrating the work of composer Beethoven and his timeless piece, Symphony No. 9. Part of the Cultural Olympiad, the Proms are considered to be one of Britain’s most iconic and loved traditions. With the night’s performance also being the same evening as the hugely anticipated London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony, it was arguably fitting that the Symphony No. 9 would be the centre piece performance for the Proms with the piece considered a symphony that celebrates unity and brings people together in celebration. This was the last performance of conductor Daniel Barenboim’s celebration of Beethoven, with Symphony No. 9 being the climax of his Beethoven cycle. Speaking to attendees, WinkBall captured the essence of the evening and found out what had brought people down and what they love about the Proms, and more importantly what they love about Beethoven.
