Tottenham v Fulham

Tottenham 2-0 Fulham Tottenham’s 2-0 victory over Fulham ensured a Top Four finish – only fourth place though, as Arsenal’s 3-2 victory over West Brom secured their third place and guaranteed Champions League football for 2012/13. Spurs, however, have to endure a nervy wait this week as their European fate shan’t be revealed until the final whistle in Munich as Chelsea face Bayern in the 2012 Champions League final. Spurs fans were buoyed by their early goal from Adebayor, combined with the incoming news of Arsenal’s losing in the midlands. Alas, Arsenal were back even before half time and were winning again at 3-2 ten minutes after the break. The lull that followed news of Arsenal’s winning goal was buoyed slightly by Jermain Defoe’s shot – diverted from Aaron Lennon’s. The fans were unsure whether to celebrate as the meaning of the goal was yet to be confirmed. The fact Europe is now out of their hands is really their own fault at The Lane, as a terrible run of one win in nine games saw their points gap above Arsenal decline in dramatic fashion. For a season in which they were once long-shot title contenders, this fourth place finish is more realistic for the Spurs fans. The gloss of the final day disappeared at not finishing above Arsenal to secure definitive European football.
