With the Olympic Games just around the corner, WinkBall Reporters hit central London looking to catch the build-up and anticipation from the residents, tourists, and, in fact, anyone eagerly anticipating the Games. While the football has already kicked-off… across the country, the official opening ceremony isn’t until Friday 27 July (a momentous date for Brits to recall for the future). There has been plenty of talk, rumour and definitive claims about how the opening ceremony is going to go down. There are plenty of obscure ideas – a natural for something organised by Danny Boyle. We asked people what sorts of things they were expecting to see from the ceremony – live animals and NHS workers have already been announced, but what surprises could there be? A big talking point is the lighting of the cauldron; the end of the torch relay and definitive mark that London 2012 has commenced. Who do people expect to light it – and moreover, who would they most like to light it? Team GB are sending 542 athletes to compete at London 2012, but who are the public most looking forward to seeing? And who do they think will be the star of 2012 – for Great Britian, or of course and overall star from another country. Michael Phelps could make history; Usain Bolt may steal hearts again with another too-easy finish; will Mo Farah be GB’s main man with double Gold? Or how about Oscar Pistorius helping South Africa make history in the 4x400m? So much excitement is brewing now – and the Games have barely started. Let’s play!
