Singer-Songwriter Brooke Sharkey speaks to WinkBall at the launch of her EP 'May'.
A singer-songwriter inspired by gypsy blues and country folk music, Brooke Sharkey has carved out an exciting musical niche with her melodious sound and expressive vocals. It was in 2010, that Brooke released debut EP ‘A taste of truth’, a record that exhibited her talent for soulful folk and introduced her music to the blues scene. Following on from her ‘A taste of truth’ EP, Brooke now performs alongside a fresh line-up of violin, double bass, French horn, Drums and Accordion. This new band provides the perfect platform for Brooke to transport the audience into her world. Her songs are achingly personal, presenting the tribulations of life and complex intimacies in all their vibrant, heartbreaking glory. The band formed last August to play the Chai Wallah stage at Greenman festival, which resulted in an opportunity to record Brooke’s debut album in World Circuit’s Livingston studios. Exciting times ahead for Brooke with the production of this debut album, Brooke funded it through an online crowd funding campaign where she raised over $4,000 in album pre sales. The album is set to be released in October this year. Meanwhile Brooke will be touring in Germany for 3 weeks in May, France in September and playing at Cambridge Folk Festival and Secret Garden Party, among others. Whilst her fans wait for the much anticipated release of her debut album later this year, fans could get another taste of Brooke’s music with the release of her next EP entitled ‘May’. Released on the 1st May 2012, to celebrate the EP’s release, East London music venue hosted the EP launch party for ‘May’. Down at the venue were many of Brooke’s fans keen to hear what this new EP offered. Speaking to attendees, WinkBall video reporters Zoe and Alicia were at the event speaking to fans and finding out about Brooke’s latest release and asking them what had brought them down to this EP launch.
