UKWA National Championships 2011 - Day 1

Event Date: 03/05/2011

Windsurfing is a surface water sport that integrates elements of surfing and sailing. It consists of a board about 2 to 4 meters in length which is powered by the orthogonol effect of the wind on a sail. Windsurfers offer experiences that are outside the scope of any other sailing craft design and they can perform jumps, inverted loops, spinning manoeuvres and other freestyle moves that can't be matched by any other sailboat. To participate in the sport requires the development of balance, core stability, an understanding of sailing theory, strength, stamina and determination. All of these characteristics were on show by the 120 windsurfers competing at The UKWA Championships 201, held at Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy over the bank holiday weekend, 30th April – 2nd May 2011. Weymouth will be the home of Great Britain's Sailing for the Olympics 2012 and our WinkBall reporters were at this exciting event talking to the spectators and participants about the sport, it's popularity, it's revival, skills and much much more.
