WinkBall video reporters, Jack and Izzy went to the opening night of the classic musical, Top Hat, which had its launch night at the Birmingham Hippodrome on Tuesday the 30th of August 2011. The evening began with a red carpet entrance for the audience, most of whom were wearing Tuxedos, or tiaras for the Ladies to add to the glitz and glamour of the show. The 1935 film Top Hat was nominated for four Oscars and is regarded as one of the greatest dance musicals of all time. Tom Chambers and Summer Strallen play Jerry Travers and Dale Tremont which were played in the film by one of the greatest double acts of all time: Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. This is the first time Top Hat has been seen on stage and the lavish new production will have a cast of 30 and live band of 15 members playing classic numbers by Irving Berlin. As well as getting reviews and reactions from the audience members WinkBall reporters also got an exclusive after show interview from the star of the night, Tom Chambers former star of Holby city and also a winner of the Television show, Strictly Come Dancing.
