McCoy Tyner Quartet at Ronnie Scotts

Event Date: 07/04/2011

Born Alfred McCoy Tyner in 1938, McCoy was imbued with a love for music by his parents and encouraged to explore his musical ability through formal training. At the tender age of 17 he began a life changing relationship with Mile Davis's sideman saxophonist John Coltrane and joined the legend for the classic album 'My Favourite Things (1960). Tyner left the group in 1965 to find his own destiny as a composer and bandleader producing legendary albums such as 'The Real McCoy' and 'Sahara' and working with musical talents like Michael Brecker and Burt Bacharach. Still going strong after all these years the record shows that Tyner, who now carries the torch as the only surviving member of the John Coltrane Quartet, is still at the top of his game. Our WinkBall reporters were at Ronnie Scott's on Wednesday, 6th April 2011, where The McCoy Tyner Quartet were performing, ready to capture the passion of those attending. If YOU were there and we missed talking to you please let us know what you thought of the gig by recording a wink to this wall!
