Chicane: KOKO

Clinton and Natasha

Somewhere between dance, trance, pop, electronica and ‘balearica’ styles lies recording artist, Chicane. This modern act has been led by Nicholas Bracegirdle for the past 8 years. Bracegirdle has been recording and sending demos to labels since he was only 12 years old. Now the Buckinghamshire-born frontman is a multi-talented threat; musician, composer, songwriter and record-producer. And the effort and skills that Bracegirdle pours into Chicane are paying off. Chicane began making a musical statement with the popularity of their 1996 single, ‘Offshore’, which quickly became an anthem for the Ibiza nightclub crowds. The song was so popular that it made its way into Ibiza-themed compilation albums in the trance genre. Chicane’s anthem-making talent persisted with the release of the 1999 song, ‘Don’t Give Up’, featuring Bryan Adams. The song became a massive hit, replacing Madonna’s single ‘American Pie’ at the top of the UK Singles Chart in 2000. And with fame comes the fortune of working with some famous voices. Chicane has worked with the likes of Tom Jones, Natasha Bedingfield and Keane to name a few. Now the dance-electronica act regularly performs with a five-piece line up, including: Carl Holt (bass), Mark Pusey or Simon Merry (drums), Simon Small (guitar) and Natasha Andrews (female vocals). In support of their new album, ‘Thousand Mile Stare’, Chicane will start their tour off at London’s KOKO. WinkBall reporters headed down to KOKO on Friday 27th April 2012 to interview fans after Chicane’s first London performance in nearly 2 years. Here are their reviews.
