McFly at Hammersmith Apollo - Keep Calm and Play Louder Tour

McFly: Fans review

McFly: Fans review

‘Keep Calm and Play Louder’: is that really what you want, McFly? Calm fans are boring fans in pop and pop-punk circles, surely? So when the foursome are rocking out the Hammersmith Apollo for their latest gig of their 26-date UK tour, they’re gonna forget their latest 2012 tour title and make fans dance like crazy as they play louder. They may have been around since 2003 – that’s nearly a decade, math-fans. But as they work on their sixth studio album, their fan base is still going strong. Okay, so The Girl With Five Colours In Her Hair no longer has five colours in her hair – but she’s still there. She’s just dyed her hair a more demure shade of Chocolate Truffle Brown. They were originally like a cooler version of Busted – because they evaded the super-cheesy pop route in favour of something only mildly pop rock. McFly, made-up of Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd, went straight to number one with their debut ‘Five Colours in Her Hair’ single, and have pretty much never looked back. With many Smash Hits Awards, Brit Awards, UK Festival Awards and Nickelodeon UK Kids Choice Awards – not to mention several album and single number one’s – to their Back To The Future inspired name. (That’s Marty McFly, aka Michael J. Fox, from the very awesome comedy sci-fi trilogy). The band have matured – well, as much as guys in their mid-twenties can do – and their most recent album, ‘Above The Noise’ from 2010, somewhat reflects that. This March/April 2012 UK tour promotes this fifth studio album, which included their biggest single to date: ‘Shine A Light’, which sold over 300,000 copies in the UK. The guys are working on their sixth album as you read these very words.
