Wittenberg at Gate Theatre

Event Date: 29/09/2011

What would happen if Martin Luther and Dr Faustus were colleagues at a university? What if Hamlet was one of their students? What, indeed. Wittenberg comes to us from the award-winning American playwright David Davalos and is a celebration of academia, history, language and religion. Charmingly intellectual and delightfully witty, the production’s main focus is that of faith versus reason and what lies in between. Director Christopher Hayden musters up a real storm from his performers and creates a two hour and twenty-five minute trip that doesn’t bore or bother but rather entertains and energizes. Our WinkBall citizen reporters were at Gate Theatre on Thursday, 29th September 2011, to capture the passion of those in attendance.
