We love you James Blunt

One of the best selling artists of the 2000s, singer-songwriter James Blunt has continuously produced hit record after hit record and has enjoyed a great mix of commercial and critical success with his music. His breakthrough album all the way back in 2004, ‘Back to Bedlam’ spawned a number of catchy and still iconic tunes that hit both an upbeat and melancholy note. Tracks such as “Goodbye my lover” evoked a feeling of somberness and lost love, whereas singles such as “High” and “You’re Beautiful” had within them a real sense of joy and zest for life. The success of the album was enormous with the album selling well over 3 million copies in the UK, topping album charts in ten different countries and reaching number two on the US billboard. Follow up album in 2007, ‘All the Lost Souls’ proved that Blunt was no flash in the pan and he could reproduce the same type of catchy pop tunes that ‘Back to Bedlam’ had been renowned for. Soulful tune “1973” was the albums debut single and its sound reflected a different type of music for Blunt, with the song influenced by his time spent in Ibiza night club Pacha, with the club opening in the year 1973. “Carry you home” was another of the album’s stand out tracks and presented a return to the James Blunt music fans had first come to love with its sound having echoes of classic Blunt tracks “You’re Beautiful” and “Goodbye my lover”. 2010 saw Blunt release the tricky third album, titled ‘Some Kind of Trouble’, the album did not fare as well as Blunt’s previous efforts with Blunt going down a more folky route with his music. Commercially the album still made an impression, entering at number four in the UK album charts. With the catchy melodies in his pop tunes, Blunt still has a fantastic fan base that many artists would be envious of. His past military history and charitable work, including his work as a patron for ‘Help for Heroes’ make him one of the most likeable characters around in the music industry. Off the back of the album ‘Some Kind of Trouble’, 2011 saw Blunt embark on a huge world tour that began in February 2011 and has continued into 2012 with Blunt playing a string of gigs this January in South America. Now, just over a year on tour, James Blunt has returned to the UK and on Monday 6 February 2012, the 02 Shepherd’s Bush Empire welcomed him to perform what promised to be another top class performance. At the venue was WinkBall video reporters Alex and Sofia; they were at the Shepherds Bush Empire to speak to fans who had come to see James Blunt in action. Asking them what had brought them down this evening to see him, fans were also asked what they love about his music? With his most recent album ‘Some Kind of Trouble’ reflecting a change in his music, fans were asked what they made of the progression in his sound? Finally fans were asked to leave a message for the man himself.
