Winning the MOBO award for Best Jazz two years running, Yolanda Brown is something of a force on the British jazz scene. A singer-songwriter whose soulful and smooth sound has won her an array of fans, Yolanda is considered Britain’s premier saxophonist. Hailing from Barking in East London, her sound is seen as blending urban and contemporary elements with traditional jazz and R&B. Her hard work and determination has now paid off with critical recognition from her musical peers and now with the release of her debut album. “April Showers, May Flowers’. Known for her performances on the saxophone, this record showcases not only her work on her trademark instrument, but also features for the first time her beautiful vocals on tracks, “Bitter Sweet” and “Without You”. Valentine’s Day was the first date of Yolanda’s small UK tour where she is set to play a number of dates starting in London and finishing in Cornwall at the end of May. Accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, this collaboration would certainly give Yolanda’s music a new sound and exciting edge. WinkBall video reporters Stefan and Dean were at the Hammersmith Apollo on Friday 17th October where Yolanda Brown was playing on her third tour date. Speaking to these jazz enthusiasts, fans were asked what had brought them down to see this talented young woman performing and what do they love about her music?
