England v West Indies : First Test Series Day Five (review from Lords)

by Sports Reporters

It was victory for England in the first test series against West Indies as they wrapped up victory at Lord’s on the fifth and final day on Monday 21st May 2012.

England went into the game slightly nervous after yesterday’s surprise comeback from West Indies and would have hoped that victory could have been wrapped up by lunchtime yesterday afternoon. This was not to be as Windies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul threw a slight spanner into the works and frustrated England, scoring high and only to be denied a test century by a small number of runs. Could he work his magic again and spoil the party for England and pull off a shock victory for West Indies.

Many were surprised that West Indies had lasted this long considering the playing conditions the British weather brought were not something the team are ever used to. Despite this, fans were still happy to get a full five days of cricket and were hoping this day would cap off a fantastic test series.

It was Alastair Cook and Ian Bell who with a stand of 132, finished the job for England and ensured victory came their way. Grabbing first blood, England now go into the second test at Trent Bridge with a 1-0 lead.

Down at Lord’s Cricket Ground, WinkBall video reporters were speaking to fans capturing their reaction to England’s victory and the test series as a whole.
