One of America’s most loved genres of music and one of its most loved artists, Country music singer Carrie Underwood performed at iconic music venue Royal Albert Hall London on Thursday 21st June 2012 to an array of adoring fans. Following in the footsteps of other popular female country singers the likes of Shania Twain and Faith Hill; Carrie Underwood has successfully merged traditional mainstream pop with the raw and bluesy roots of country music thus transcending the genre across many fan bases. With her cute girl next door looks and sweet demeanour as an artist, this squeaky clean image she has been known for is arguably reflected in her upbringing and roots. Born and raised in rural Oklahoma by her agricultural worker father and teacher mother, Carrie is also a practising Christian and grew up living in active and inclusive rural community. As a practising Christian, Carrie’s love of performing began at an early age and became a part of her Christian upbringing with her performing at a variety of local community events for her Baptist church. This young small town girl has done Oklahoma proud and became an internationally recognised star since her ascension to stardom, winning the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. One of the few winners of the popular reality television series that have stood the test of times, Carrie stood out from the rest of the competition from an early age with her distinct vocal and style being a breath of fresh air for judge Simon Cowell. Since winning the competition and landing a record deal, Carrie has become a multi-platinum selling artist, Grammy award winner, Golden Globe award nominee and even seen herself inducted in to the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. At the top of her game, Carrie continues to be a force in popular music and 2012 has seen her release her fourth studio album ‘Blown Away’, with the album going straight in at number one on both the US Billboard top 200 and Country Music top 200, and spawning number one single “Good Girl”. Performing at the Royal Albert Hall, WinkBall video reporters were at the gig venue to speak to fans of Carrie Underwood and find out what they love about Carrie and what were they expecting from the night’s performance, plus what did they think of the gig afterwards?
