London Gay Men's Chorus: SOUND- An Aural Adventure

Event Date: 25/06/2011

From a humble beginning of six members in 1991, the London Gay Men's Chorus (LGMC) can now boast of 190 choir members and a total of over 230 members. As an identifiably gay choir, the group's aim is to challenge society's preconceptions both musically and socially and at the same time provide a social network for its members. The London Gay Men's Chorus is Europe's best and largest known gay choir which has a wide repertoire of music ranging from R&B, pop, jazz, classical and folk tunes. The choir has performed with stars such as Sir Elton John, Sandi Toksvig,The Human League and at venues like The Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Royal Albert Hall and Washington’s Kennedy Centre. From Friday 24th to Saturday 25th June, LGMC’s summer show will focus on the development of music’s fundamental component - SOUND. It is a pioneering concert that promises to take audiences on an aural adventure that explores the world of vocal sound across a rousing array of repertoire. The show will be a showcase of musical talent from Verdi’s shattering ‘Dies Irae’ to the present day with Björk's hip-hop-influenced ‘Triumph of a Heart’ and the Hindi hit ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya/Jai Ho’. Our reporters Grace, Jess and Lucio were there at Union Chapel on Friday, 24th June to find out from attendants what attracted them to the concert and why such concerts are important to the gay community. Were YOU there at Union Chapel and did you enjoy the display of musical talent? Why not record your thoughts about the concert and what you thought of the show on this site!
