One of musical theatre’s best loved shows, Top Hat has been captivating audiences at the Aldwych Theatre since its arrival in London’s West End. Full of classic songs and toe tapping dance routines, set to a timeless story of romance, Top Hat is undoubtedly a show for all. Many musical fans will remember the classic RKO picture Top Hat from the 1930s, which starred Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Renowned as one of the most recognisable dancing couples the entertainment world has ever seen, Fred and Ginger’s moves were one of a kind and what made their films so iconic. From the creative genius that is Irving Berlin, Top Hat features classic songs from his huge repertoire, such as “Let’s face the music and dance”, “Cheek to cheek” and “Putting on the Ritz”. For this West End production, the roles of Broadway sensation Jerry Travers and society model Dale Tremont, are performed by West End regular Summer Strallen (Love Never Dies, The Sound of Music) and Holby City heart throb Tom Chambers. On Tuesday 24th July 2012, WinkBall video reporters Billy and Laurent headed down to Aldwych Theatre to speak to theatre goers that had come to see the production of Top Hat, finding out what had brought them to see it and what they love about the show.
