Haunted Child at Royal Court Theatre

Event Date: 09/12/2011

Thursday 8th December, 2011 – Joe Penhall’s compelling new play, Haunted Child, at the Royal Court Theatre provokes chilling questions about belief, spirituality and religion – exploring the things we believe and the consequences of how we act upon them. The protagonists, husband and wife, Douglas and Julie, are trying for a second child when Douglas inexplicably disappears. When he returns, it is with a newfound spirituality that causes fractions in their once domestic bliss. Thomas, their first-born and the aforementioned Haunted Child is caught in the conflict of his parents’ diametric ideals. Like Penhall’s previous work, he explores the fractious relationship between a fanatical idealist and a forbearing pragmatist, via a fraught and disturbing dialogue that really affects its audience. Hear the moved and impassioned responses from the Press Night attendees to discover why you should experience Penhall’s work for yourself. Haunted Child by Joe Penhall is at the RoyalCourtTheatre until 14 January. Tickets from £10 available online www.royalcourttheatre.com or from the box office 0207 565 5000
