One of the leading musical figures in the classical and pop music cross over, Welsh beauty Katherine Jenkins has distinguished herself as the voice of the 21st century. A classical singer in the mezzo-soprano range, Katherine’s tremendous classical voice has won herself an array of fans and made her music universally popular. First entering the music charts with debut album ‘Premiere’, this classical effort from Katherine went straight in at number one in the classical charts with classical hymn favourites the likes of “Ave Maria” and “Lord Is My Shepherd”. As Katherine’s career has progressed, she has seen her fan-base grow and grow and with this, won herself more admirers. Making a number of singing appearances on various chat and television shows, Katherine has become well known in the public sphere more so and her performance of the National Anthem has become a regular occurrence at sporting events. Much like Charlotte Church and Andrea Bocelli, she has made the crossover to pop music whilst still holding on to her classical music roots. With each of her albums, Katherine has seen her music become more accessible to the pop charts. One of her more recent albums, ‘Believe’ included a string of popular pop covers that were given a classical twist such as Evanescence’s “Bring Me To My Life” and Queen’s “Who Wants To Live Forever?” Dubbed the “new Forces’ sweetheart”, Katherine Jenkins has made numerous appearances entertaining the armed forces in Britain both at home and overseas with her performing for troops in Iraq at Christmas. It was in 2005, where past met future when Katherine and former Forces’ sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn were on stage together for the 60th VE Day Anniversary during the song ‘We’ll Meet Again”. On the last night of her UK tour, Katherine Jenkins performed for crowds at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. WinkBall video reporters Alex and Max were down at the Hammersmith Apollo to speak to fans for the Katherine Jenkins gig. Asking them what had brought them down to the gig, fans were asked what they loved about Katherine’s music and what they think makes her so popular as an artist.
