England’s biggest St George’s Day celebration returned - with dragons, drama and plenty of entertainment. The patron Saint of England was honoured through a weekend of flamboyant events starting on Friday 20 April and continued through until Sunday 22 April – with the annual St George’s Day Parade. Manchester’s third St George’s Day Festival returned to Albert Square this year, with market holders and performers expecting thousands of visitors each day. Saturday’s itinerary included modern day forces sweetheart, Katie Spitfire, taking visitors back to the Blitz with authentic costume and a show stopping voice channelling the spirit of Vera Lynn with hits from the era. She was joined during the day by aspiring Manchester vocalist Krisshan Jade Weedall, whose voice will be known to Britain’s Got Talent fans, as well as live gigs from Will Holehouse, Mark DB and the return of musical duo Street Jazz.
