Russell Howard: Lyric Theatre

by Entertainment Reporters

Renowned for his off the wall, zany and madcap humour; Russell Howard is one of Britain’s most popular stand up comedians. First breaking on to the comedy scene back in 2004, after initial success on the amateur comedy circuit, Russell’s big break came in radio when he presented his own original comedy series on Radio 1, ‘The Milk Run’. 2005 saw Russell become bigger and well known as a stand up act when he brought his comedic talents to annual Arts festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe where his unique style of comedy won him many new admirers and caught the attention of the public. More radio work soon followed with his BBC 6 Music show ‘The Russell Howard Show’ which he co-hosted with fellow comedian Jon Richardson.

Russell continued work as a stand-up with his following growing more and more. With this, he soon found himself in the world of television making a number of appearances in top British comedy quiz shows the likes of ‘8 out of 10 Cats’, ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks’ and ‘Would I Lie To You?’ However it was satirical comedy show ‘Mock the Week’ where Russell found his true home, with him becoming a regular panellist alongside comedy peers Frankie Boyle, Hugh Dennis and Andy Parsons. On the show, Russell became popular and a much loved addition to the line up for his quick, observational and sometimes oddball sense of humour. Russell has since moved on from ‘Mock the Week’ and now presents his own BBC Three television show, ‘Russell Howard’s Good News’, a topical news show that showcases Russell’s talents as a stand up where he looks back on the week’s stories and puts his own irreverent and interesting spin on them as a comedian.

With a string of highly successful stand up tours behind him, Russell continues to wow audiences with his own brand of humour and certifies himself as one of the top names on the British comedy circuit. On Monday 19th March 2012, the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith, London played host to one of Russell Howard’s fantastic live gigs. One of three live stand up gigs that Russell would be hosting in aid of charity, this show at the Lyric would be raising funs for Children's charity Barnardos and would be featuring a selection of comedy guests as well as Russell himself. At the gig speaking to fans of Russell Howard’s was WinkBall video reporters Lucie and Juliet. Talking to the many fans who had come to see the mad Bristolian stand-up in action, fans were asked what makes Russell stand out from the crowd in contrast with other British comedians and where did they first discover him? Talking about his upcoming gig, fans would be asked what their expectations of the evening would be and afterwards what they thought of the gig.
