Ladyhawke is a lady, but not a hawk. No matter, she has been a flyaway success since her excellent self-titled debut album in 2008. This LP saw her win plenty of acclaim in her native New Zealand Music Awards, and garnered plenty of worldwide acknowledgements too, as a breakthrough artist. Her second album ‘Anxiety’ was released on March 19, and this Shepherds Bush Empire performance is one of 12 shows she is playing across the UK. This second release is a different slant for Pip Brown (her real name)… as the sound is far more “rocky”. She was influenced by the likes of the Pixies, Blur, and Nirvana during her writing and it is apparent when you listen to her tracks. Note plenty more guitar, occasional organ – but no more synth. What did the UK portion of the commonwealth think of miss Ladyhawke’s ‘Magic’? Did it make them wanna rock out from Dusk Till Dawn? We found out the fans’ views…
