Joburg Pride 2011 - 2

Event Date: 05/10/2011

Joburg Pride, an annual celebration of sexual diversity, was held at Zoo Lake this past Saturday. It is an anticipated calendar event that consists of a weeklong festival of cultural, social, activist and entertainment events that culminate in a street parade followed by a mardi-gras of epic proportions! It’s core goal is to promote acceptance and diversity, build confidence in sexual identity and celebrate individuality, freedom of expression and association. As people flocked to the colourful parade, the overall tone of the event seemed to have shifted… In the past, attendees commented, that the parade reflected the mood of a protest, whereas as now it reflects a celebration, as people walk in greater tolerance and freedom! WinkBall citizen video reporters Sharon, Tabane and Laurraine were there to capture the festivities of this growing event. If you attended Joburg Pride, but were not interviewed, upload your thoughts on the importance of acceptance of diversity across all spectrums in life, to this wall now.
