On Saturday, 10th September 2011, tradition met some mischievousness as Edward Garner conducted his first Last Night of the Proms. For this fabulous of famous finales there were two very special and spectacular guests. First we had Susan Bullock, who since her first Proms appearance in 1995 has become one of Britain's leading and dramatic sopranos, being a connoisseur in what she calls 'the large ladies' of the repertoire. Nothing is more demanding as the Brünnhilde, whose Immolation Scene concludes Wagner's epic Ring cycle. Secondly, we had Lang Lang who is a classical music superstar as popular in the West as in his native China. He played Liszt in his most breath-taking and brilliant performance in his sixth visit to the Proms. WinkBall citizen video reporters were at The Royal Albert Hall asking the patrons what makes the Last Night of the Proms so special for them and what pieces of music they were looking forward to hearing that night.
