Newton Faulkner burst onto the British music scene in 2007 with his album “Hand Built by Robots”. Instantly recognisable with his ginger dreadlocks, the Surrey-born singer-guitarist became a big hit in Britain and across the world. The album went double platinum in the UK and yielded the huge single “Dream Catch Me” and his unique cover of Massive Attack’s “Teardrop”. Faulkner’s unique folk style, accompanied by his rhythmic tapping, made him stand out from the ever saturated music market. His fan-base grew and grew after supporting popular artists James Morrison and Paolo Nutini on their UK tours and Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley featuring “Dream Catch Me” heavily on her show. His career slowed after the instant success of “Hand Built by Robots”, as his second album “Rebuilt by Humans” was delayed to 2009 by a wrist injury. Despite reaching number 3 in the UK album chart, his second album never achieved the same success. However, Faulkner has returned in 2012 with new music. His EP “Sketches” was released in mid-April 2012, and with rumours of a new album coming at the end of the year, it is an exciting period of the folk-star’s career. A few dates into his huge UK tour, Faulkner played the first of two dates at Scala in London. WinkBall reporters went to the venue on Tuesday 1st May 2012 to talk to his fans about all things Newton…
