First making the headlines with their alternate disco interpretation of the Pink Floyd classic “Comfortably Numb” which hit the top of the UK charts, Scissors Sisters have constantly challenged the status quo of conventional music with their glam rock, nu-disco come electro-clash musical style, heavily inspired by the gay nightlife scene of New York City. Making their mark on the music scene in 2004, lead by vocalists Jake Sears and Ana Matronic, the band released their self-titled debut album to critical acclaim and huge commercial success. Songs such as “Filthy/Gorgeous”, “Laura” and “Take Your Mama Out” were heralded as new disco classics with an indie edge. The record peaked at number one in the UK charts and confirmed them as an overnight success with the band winning a clutch of Brit Music Awards in addition to the success of “Comfortably Numb” which was nominated for a prestigious Grammy award. The band have since then become increasingly popular worldwide with them collaborating with high profile acts the likes of Kylie Minogue and Elton John, and U2 frontman Bono championing the band as one of the greatest pop groups of recent times. More album and single success, festival headline appearances and more, the Scissor Sisters have confirmed themselves as one of the top popular music acts around today. On Wednesday 16th May 2012, Scissor Sisters performed at the popular music venue Shepherd’s Bush Empire to a crowd of ecstatic fans. Down at the venue were WinkBall video reporters Lucy and Oliver who were speaking to both sets of fans and finding out what had brought them down to see the band and what is it they love about the group?
