The Carnival Archive

Carnival is all about emotion, energy, movement and above all, happiness. Video is fantastic at capturing these feelings in a way that photos and words can't. The WinkBall Project is based in Westbourne Park, right in the heart of the carnival. So we thought it would be great to record the spirit of carnival at street level, so people can experience it wherever and whenever they want.

The Carnival Archive will be a permanent record of the wild colour, excitement and hard work that goes into this unique event. We've asked the Carnival community to create their own blogs, to show what they do behind the scenes. Our street reporters will capture the event as it happens. And you can join in by adding your videos to the dozens of carnival video walls.

For most people, Carnival is two days of fun at the end of August. But for the people who make the costumes and floats, play in the bands and run the sound systems, it's the end of months of hard work. Many of them have kept a video blog of what goes on. Take a look at them here.

The carnival walls are public spaces where anyone can put up a video about a certain carnival topic or theme. Some walls belong to Mas Bands and Sound Systems. Some are about memories, dancing, music and costumes. Feel free to add your feelings to the walls.
