Shinedown: Roundhouse

Shinedown: Roundhouse

Hailing from Florida, America, those unfamiliar with the works of Shinedown may see some contrast in their sound to other original music from the sunshine state and deep south with their music having echoes of southern rock influences. Taking inspiration not just from the likes of Lynyrd Skynryd and Creeden Clearwater Revival, Shinedown’s music goes that little bit further in terms of musical direction. Blending elements of post-grunge and alternative metal, Shinedown are a hard rock band that have within them a great deal of musical variety and eclecticism Founding members of the band Barry Kerch and Brent Smith have seen Shinedown come a long way since their inception back in 2001 with them recording thus far, three highly successful albums and now in 2012 look forward to the upcoming release of anticipated fourth album ‘Amaryllis’. With their music significantly popular in the rock charts, Shinedown’s music has also had a great cultural impact in the States. Single “I Dare You” from second album ‘Us and Them’ was performed in the fifth series of hit television show ‘American Idol’ by contestant Chris Daughtry and was used for the hugely popular wrestling franchise WWE. Not just television did Shinedown’s music find a home but also in cinema and gaming with hit single “Devour” from third album ‘Us and Them’ being used on the soundtrack to motion picture ‘The Final Destination’ and also on video game ‘Madden NFL 09’. With forthcoming album ‘Amaryllis’ soon to hit the stores in March this year, now is the time for the band to showcase some of their new material whilst still throwing in a few classic tunes along the way. Shinedown have currently played a string of dates in Europe and on Wednesday 8th February 2012, the UK welcomed Shinedown as the band were set to perform at music venue the Roundhouse in Camden, London. WinkBall reporters Daniel and Fred were at the Roundhouse for the Shinedown concert to speak to fans and find out what had brought them down to see them perform and what their music means to them? Also with the group about to release a new album, what were their expectations and how would it compare to past Shinedown efforts? Afterwards, fans were asked how the gig was and what they made of the band’s new material?
