Olivia saw the International Ballet Gala last year in Cape Town and says that this year has definitely been an improvement, She says South African dancers are on par with international dancers. She says the Teatro is a superb venue for ballets and looks forward to seeing many more.
It was South Africa’s turn to welcome a galaxy of visiting ballet stars for the International Ballet Gala, at the Teatro in Montecasino, Johannesburg on 9 July 2011. This was the first time ballet was seen on the Teatro stage, and was an exquisite first time it was! Excited ballet enthusiasts could see the incredible talents of Alys Shee (Canada), Brooklyn Mack (USA), Elza Leimane (Latvia) as well as Johannesburg-born Andile Ndlovu. The event had audiences cheering the ballet stars as they set the stage alight with dancing, both sophisticated and powerful.
