Evening Standard London Mayoral Debate: Emmanuel Centre

Event Date: 12/04/2012

With the race to become the next London Mayor hotting-up, the candidates met at the Emmanuel Centre in London on Wednesday, 11th April 2012. Hosted by The Evening Standard, the debate provided a good opportunity for the candidates to tell the voters why they should be elected. Labour Party candidate Ken Livingstone, current Mayor and Conservative candidate Boris Johnson, Lib Dem Brian Paddick and the Green Party’s Jenny Jones locked horns in front of the 1,000 Londoners in the auditorium. Prior to the debate, the polls put Boris Johnson seven per cent ahead of his nearest rival Ken Livingston. However, as the 2010 General Election proved, debates between the leaders can change everything. WinkBall reporters Oliver Borrow and Zoe Kealey met with the audience to get their views on the debate, and whether their minds have been swayed by the debate.
